SENIOR FORUM

The present constitution of the Mar Thoma Yuvajana Sakhyam does not allow any one above 35 years to be a member of the Sakhyam automatically. This constitutional clause was strictly applied in Kuwait and with the result, many who were active members of the Sakhyam for several years had to leave the Sakhyam. However, those members who had to leave the Sakhyam wanted to keep their fellowship and service to the Church. As a result, a Senior Forum was established in Kuwait with the approval and blessing of our Diocesan Episcopa and the Yuvajana Sakhyam President Rt.Rev.Dr.Geevarghese Mar Theodosius Episcopa.

The General Body meeting of the “Kuwait Mar Thoma Senior Forum” was held on Tuesday, May 20, 2003 presided by Rev.Dr.P.S. Daniel. The constitution of the Senior Forum is exactly as that of the Yuvajana Sakhyam except for the age limit. Senior Forum admits even members below 35 years of age. The main aim of the Forum is to gather for prayer and fellowship, organize bible study classes, discussions and debate on current affairs, arranging interorganisational bible quiz contests, and to give a helping hand to many of our needy, less privileged brethrens in India. The official inauguration of the Senior Forum was held on Tuesday, 3rd of June 2003, by the former vicar of Kuwait Mar Thoma Parish, Rev.George Varghese.

Kuwait Mar Thoma Parish is one of the largest parishes of the Mar Thoma Church and probably the only one with a large number of services, a total of 21 services in three locations, per month. This is the first time in the history of the Mar Thoma Church, an organization is formed to worship, study, witness and service for those who are unable to continue in the Yuvajana Sakhyam.
