Milestones

1952

 

Worshipping group was organized and First Holy Communion celebrated by Rev. Philip Oommen (at present H. G. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Metroplitan) according to liturgy of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar.

1952

 

Rev. M. G. Chandy (Late. Alexander Mar Thoma Metropolitan) visited Kuwait and inaugurated the First Congregational Worship in the American Mission Church under the name of the Kuwait Town Malayalee Christian Congregation.

1959

 

H.G. Dr. Juhanon Mar Thoma Metropolitan visited Kuwait.

1961

 

During the visit of Rt. Rev. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Episcopa to Kuwait, the idea of bringing a clergyman to Kuwait was presented.

1963

April 15

The Missionary Bishop of the Mar Thoma Church, the Rt. Rev. Thomas Mar Athansius Epsicopa visited Kuwait. A special meeting was convened in the Church of Christ (American Mission Church) and gave a sanction to the formation of the Edavaka, subject to the approval of the Metropolitan.

1963

May 30

The official approval of the formation of the Edavaka was issued by H.G. Dr. Juhanon Mar Thoma Metropolitan and appointed Rev. M. O. Oommen as the first Vicar.

1963

September 08

The first Vicar Rev. M. O. Oommen arrived in Kuwait and started various activities of the Parish. The Parish, at that time had a membership of 211 men, 126 women and 112 children. Worship services were held three Wednesdays of the month and Holy Communion was celebrated one Friday every month. The Sunday School, Sevika Sanghom and Family Prayer Meetings were organized.

1964

September

The Sevika Sanghom organized its first ‘Sale’.

1966

January

Yuvajana Sakhyam was formed and affiliated to the Central Yuvajana Sakhyam.

1966

May

Our worship services were changed from the three Wednesdays of the month to all Mondays, and Holy Communion was celebrated twice a month.

1967

May

Rev. M.O.Oommen returned to India. Edavaka had grown up to be one of the largest foreign parishes of our Church.

September 03

The Second Vicar Rev. D. Alexander arrived in Kuwait.

The Vaideeka Seminary Endowment Fund was started.

1970

June

Rev. D. Alexander was transferred to the Ernakulam Parish.

The Third Vicar Rev. Cherian Thomas arrived.

Contributions to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, C. P. Mathew Memorial Ecumenical Study Centre, St. Thomas Residential School Trivandrum and to the Bangladesh Relief Fund were some of achievements.

Rev. A. C. Kurian arrived in Kuwait as our Fourth Vicar.

Rev. Cherian Thomas was transferred to Anaprampal.

Rev. P. P. Kuruvilla arrived in Kuwait as our Fifth Associate Vicar.

Our member Mr. Jacob M. Channappetta was elected as TVM-QLN Diocesan Council Member.

Third Alexander Mar Thoma Memorial Lectures. Speaker - Rt. Rev. Dr. Zacharias Mar Theophilus Episcopa, Bishop of Madras - Calcutta and Malaysia - Singapore Dioceses.

39th Parish Day. Chief Guest Rt. Rev. Dr. Zacharias Mar Theophilus Episcopa (Diocesan Bishop of Madras-Calcutta & Malaysia-Singapore). Inaugurated by H.G. Dr. Yakob Mar Irenaeus Metropolitan (Diocesan Bishop of Madras Diocese, Indian Orthodox Church).

 

 December 25

New Worship started at Salwa Greek Catholic Church. Rt. Rev. Dr.Geevarghese Mar Theodosius, Bishop of Trivandrum - Quilon Diocese, consecrated the First Holy Communion.
